Heater switch problem77CapriceClassic 09-01-2007, 01:52 AM Back in April or so I bought my 77 Caprice. When I bought it, the heater/fan/defrost and all that worked just fine. Then I took apart the dash and put everything back how it was and never touched the heater controls and was careful not to move it too much. Well I put everything back to how it was and went to use the heater and defrost to see if it worked and it didnt. I could feel heat trickling out of there but the fan wasnt blowing. Then a few weeks ago my friend was messing around with it and randomly got the fan to start blowing. Is there something I should look for thats loose maybe? Or how should I go about fixing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. silicon212 09-01-2007, 02:35 AM The switch probably needs replacing. Not the motor switch, but the heater switch (the slider on top). These have a plastic clip in them that tends to break, and when they do - you lose most everything. 77CapriceClassic 09-01-2007, 02:38 AM The switch probably needs replacing. Are you talking about the one thats inside the car above the radio? If so are they easy to find? silicon212 09-01-2007, 02:40 AM Are you talking about the one thats inside the car above the radio? If so are they easy to find? Yes and yes. It was a very common part - yours will interchange with mine and vice versa. Used on LOTS of GM cars from the 70s into the 90s. When the plastic clip broke on mine, I put it back together with a locknutted bolt instead. It's a trick to get the three springs inside lined up properly, though. 77CapriceClassic 09-01-2007, 02:46 AM Yes and yes. It was a very common part - yours will interchange with mine and vice versa.
