Clear Coat Sanding

Hi all.

I had an accident a few months ago and have now removed the dints out of my tank wth fibreglass body filler. I recently painted the tank and the clear coat (Two pack) had some imperfections in it (like where a bug or two landed) so i wet sanded (800 grit) it down to a smooth finish.

Problem is now i have swirl marks all over my tank.

The pic below shows what it looks like. 1/2 the tank is wet and thats how i want it to look, the other 1/2 is dry and you can see the swirls.

Should i continue to wetsand (maybe 1200 grit, then 1500 grit, then 2000 grit) or should i just re-clear coat it?

Also, i'm thinking of adding just a thin coat of strato blue flakes over it to give that real sparkle. . any thoughs? http://www.paintwithpearl.com/flakes/stratoblue/stratoblue.htm

I wouldn't have started with anything coarser than 1500 high grit wet sand....

Reclear it and start with something fine, go up in grit size if you aren't getting results...

You'll need to put your flakes under at least 2 coats of clear so you aren't sanding them away too...several very thin coats will give better results than a few heavy ones...you probably know that...

If you put clear coats under and above the clear coat layer with the flakes, it'll make it stand up and really scatter the light and jump out at you...

When you get done sanding let it set up a few days, then go over it with 3M swirl remover for that "liquid glass" finish...
