car making me mad!newmech 08-29-2007, 05:49 PM My 1992 toyota camry started to mess up. When I come to a stop sign and stop it sounds like it is about to die. So far I thought it could be not having enough oil or a loose cable to the battery but it wasnt. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Another question I have is my car when I step on the gas it takes forever for it to get up to speed. What I'm asking is what do I need to fix so that the acceleration will be better? RIP 08-29-2007, 07:48 PM Two areas I would consider for your stalling issue at stop signs is the idle air control valve and the EGR system. Your slow acceleration could be many things including the EGR system. Other possibilites could be a slipped timing belt, dirty throttle body, worn spark plugs/wires/distributor cap/rotor, weak fuel pump, clogged catalytic converter, and on and on. Need more info to suggest a fix. Which engine do you have? Have you seen the check engine light come on? What maintenance have you done on the car recently? Are you keeping up with regular maintenance? Are there any other symptoms? Does the car start and idle ok before you put it in drive? Does it idle ok for a few minutes then start having problems? Does it eventually reach highway speeds? Do you notice hesitation or cough when you press the gas pedal? Do you notice a miss or jerking? newmech 08-30-2007, 07:22 PM where are the idle air control valve and the EGR system located? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
