Hey,
Just bought an 4X4 04 XE and I'm looking for realtively inexpensive suggestions/recommendations on crossbar setups for humping boards to the beach. Also, how do these vehicles perform in 6-8" of sand...lots of dunes to negotiate on the Outer Banks.

Thanks

Surfboards? Wrap the bars in some cheap foam and lash the boards down. It's really not complicated.
Sand? Your X won't have a problem, I saw a Honda Pilot running in the soft stuff near the dunes down there a few weeks ago. Just air down to 18 psi or so, and of course don't stop when crossing ruts.

Thanks OffroadX,
I don't have a lot of experience in the sand but I've heard that running in 4H is preferable to 4L. Do you find this to be the case? I mulled over taping foam around the crossbars but I want something I can pull off easily if I need to reconfigure for snowboarding or camping. Maybe I'll just make some velcro fastening pads.

Yeah, 4H for sand, not 4L.
As for the foam, just wrap 'em and then use a few zip ties to hold it in place. Easy enough to nip the ties to remove the foam.
