What do you guys think of this idea?79_MonteCarlo 11-18-2002, 07:42 PM I just got this idea the other day when I was drunk and I was wondering what you guys would think about it. A '79 Monte Carlo SS. I know it never existed so I think I wanna make one. Big block (Probly 454, maybe 502), Posi, TH-400, The badging off the '70 SS and Some custom interior work. It wouldn't be a short project but I figure 2 years I could have it built and payed for. Any oppinions on this Idea would be appreciated. CAptynCrunch 11-18-2002, 08:02 PM Wait, is the 79 monte the same body style as the ugly, UGLY one from the 80's? If not then go for it, if it is the same body style, then i change my vote to number 3... 79_MonteCarlo 11-18-2002, 08:44 PM The 79 is like Denzel Washingtons car in Training Day -The Stig- 11-19-2002, 02:41 AM Why not? Just be prepared to answer questions to Chevy enthusiasts... well car enthusiasts in general if they see your car... Cbass 11-19-2002, 05:51 AM TerminalVelocity 11-19-2002, 06:51 AM ITS THE IDAHO! (GTA3) Well, youll be faster than hell, and have some jhive to ya, but its ugly as sin...much like my car DO IT :D 79_MonteCarlo 11-19-2002, 07:27 AM The only reason I was thinking it might be dumb is the badging off the 70 SS. I figure it might be like putting a Type R on a base model integra:D TerminalVelocity 11-19-2002, 08:02 AM well, it would be like me calling my bird a SVT, ford was going to have a SVT T-bird, ,but never did Your call, I'd say just drop the engine and forget the ss badges student_anonymous 11-20-2002, 10:33 AM SS is up to you, but it sounds good to me! I say do it. As far as worries about labeling it an SS...well, if it ads personality to your car, then feel free since SS is a standing trademark with Monte Carlos. You have freedom of choice on the SS matter...it's not like you're taking a 5 litre Mustang and replacing the Ford labels with Honda labels.. A 5.0 WITH V-TEC!!!!! Good luck on your build! :smoker2: 79_MonteCarlo 11-20-2002, 11:09 AM Thanks for the input guys I'm gonna go price the parts tonight and see what I'm getting myself into. Cbass 11-21-2002, 10:06 PM Well, I don't know what your budget is, but buying a big block and rebuilding it is going to be expensive, several thousand dollars if you want performance parts. I'd recommend starting with your smallblock. Easiest way to get power is by adding displacement. A 383 kit doesn't cost much, and with overboring you can well into the 400CI range. If you really want power, you could always invest in a good crank, rods and pistons, and supercharge or turbocharge the engine. Again, I would advise the use of a fuel injection system, for added reliability and a little extra power. You can get LT1 fuelly stuff from Ebay, and a good set of heads from any supplier. Without nitrous or blowers, you could get a good 450-500hp, very streetable. Through a blower into the mix, and you can have as much power as you can afford. Layla's Keeper 11-22-2002, 09:00 AM If you're going to lay out the green for a 454 family big-block, go the extra mile and build *cue dramatic music* A ZL-1 Monte Carlo! Yes, put an all aluminum 427ci V-8 between those fenderwells and hook it up to a Muncie M22 Rockcruesher 4spd. 500hp at the same weight as a small block. It'll be fierce!!!! 79_MonteCarlo 11-22-2002, 11:05 AM I know a Big block is quite pricey but I know this guy who always ends up getting his hands on built up Cars and quality parts for next to nothing. And another frind of mine said she could get me most of the things I'm looking for at cost because her friend owns the local Hot Rod shop. R1-rider 11-22-2002, 11:08 AM ZL1 is a good idea, I would also try to find a LS1 too. Both can be tuned to about 500hp without having to add forced induction, this way your money into cams/ heads/ rings /etc would be well spent, because if you ever decided to go to a SC, you would have the right setup with parts that arent gonna fold under the added presure. Cbass 11-23-2002, 01:19 AM Both of those would be nice options if you could afford either of those engines. You've got to remember, that's a very expensive 500hp... For a few thousand, he could rebuild his 350 into a 500hp engine... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
