The Cute Trio: Abarth 695ssauw12 08-27-2007, 03:38 PM Hi guys, here comes my contribution to the cute trio. My entry is the same as Gridgirl's, Tamiya abarth 695ss reissued kit. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00867.jpg This is the first time I have a real 1/24 fiat 500 on my hand, I can't tell how much I love it and how freakin' cute it is, so I just couldn't resist puting it beside my vast lady to get a size comparing although this had been down thousands of times. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00868.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00869.jpg Looks like they're in different scale~ Well as you know Tamiya kits are impressive and I have to say that some of their old kits are impressively horrible. When I testfit the engine cover I found that it just didn't fit at all. There're gaps all around especially a huge one on the top. This pic dosent tell too much of the issue though. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00870.jpg After a lot of adjustments I got a decent result. I also opened the rear cooling grille at this step. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00872.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00873.jpg Here's a preview of the car after mounting the wide wheel arches. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00874.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00875.jpg The engine sucks too with gaps and shrinkings here and there. This is it after a lot of sanding and putty works. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC00876.jpg I also removed the mold lines on the airduct on both sides. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC01028.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC01030.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC01026.jpg Next up I scratchbuilt the exhaust end with Tamiya 3mm plastic rod to replace the really crappy one which is shown below. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC01031.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC01032.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/auw12/fiat%20abarth%20695ss/DSC01034.jpg So much for this time. Thanks a lot for watching! OK now I should get back to the auditoria and watch the show brought by my two amazing friends! gionc 08-28-2007, 03:54 AM You quite have two gold hands my buddy. All you don't make with tools like lathe and mill, ya do at the same or more quality by hands, incredible. I'll ask how did you mill down so well engine grills, and how about those black on widened weel arches, photoshop or a kind of putty? Is those magig carbon toothpaste from Korea that make your smile shine in 2 second? LOOOOOOOOOOOFL aliburke 08-28-2007, 04:21 AM ye... gold hands... actualy... very delicious... good work ^_^ auw12 08-28-2007, 05:34 AM You quite have two gold hands my buddy. Is those magig carbon toothpaste from Korea that make your smile shine in 2 second? LOOOOOOOOOOOFL Thanks G. I just milled down the back of the engine grilles with my motor tool and them cut through the inner with modeling knife then sanded them smooth. The black wheel arches are molded on another plastic tree which was black, you'll see the same in Gridgirl's thread I believe. I use photoshop only to resize the pics or sometimes adjust the bright or contrast. quadzero 08-28-2007, 12:40 PM Already off to a good start, opening up the grill must have been a daunting task for so many tiny holes. Gold hands and gold eyes too. Dan66460 08-28-2007, 01:41 PM Great start, this is a fun "little" kit!:) klutz_100 08-28-2007, 02:50 PM Great start, this is a fun "little" kit!:) Why don't you post yours? :) NIce job as ever Tang  robrex 08-28-2007, 07:18 PM wow, that kit is small... nice job Tang! I'll be very interested to see what you do with it. Now, what about the 'vast lady'? godfather23 08-29-2007, 08:25 AM That is indeed very small. The 612 looks like a whale next to the Abarth! Good luck with your micromodelling project!!! gbarrbr 08-29-2007, 10:03 PM I have this kit on my "to do" pile. It's really nice, despite the odd size compared, for example, with my Merc S600. The exaust pipe enhancement is a very clever (and needed too) addition. I'm sure it will be very noticeable once the model is finished. MPWR 08-30-2007, 07:31 PM Looks like you're of to a good start there, Tang. I'm a bit surprised to hear of your fit issues. How did you cone the plastic rod for the exhausts? Gonna tell us anything about your plans for this one? Scuderia. 08-31-2007, 06:37 AM This is a cool little car and should be great when finished. It's so small, I think you should have make two. coolan 09-02-2007, 05:32 AM HI MR 12 haha. I didnt see this in IMX365. very nice. Dan66460 09-09-2007, 03:58 AM I "stole" your idea of opening up the cooling grill. Before I cut all the way through I did a test fit. I found that the vents open up into the interior and not into the engine compartment?:uhoh: Were you planning on putting a panel behind it? Dan auw12 09-09-2007, 10:01 AM How did you cone the plastic rod for the exhausts? Hi Andy, remember my cute power tool which I used to make the 612 shift handle and the side turnning lamp? She pretends to be my lathe sometimes  ~ About this project I haven't planned a lot, I think it will be almost OOB expect some touch ups here and there, all the regular stuff, nothing special. But I'll play a bit with the color scheme, something Chinese, perhaps, you'll see~ I "stole" your idea of opening up the cooling grill. Before I cut all the way through I did a test fit. I found that the vents open up into the interior and not into the engine compartment?:uhoh: Were you planning on putting a panel behind it? Dan Hi Dan, I haven't noticed too much about where the vents opening up into, my reference material didn't tell me much about this, I guess I'll watch Gio and Gridgirls' process and steal something~   Fabbri_Guy 09-09-2007, 12:08 PM Tiny car......... but big modifications, this is going to be good. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
