Eating brake pads and discs: 1999 Sentra GXEsearcherrr 08-27-2007, 06:04 AM 1.6L Sentra GXE 1999 My girlfriend's car is eating pads far too often and its happened a couple of times where we've had to replace the rotors. Has anyone else run into this? We've been using pads from either Autozone or Advance Auto. The brand Wearever comes to mind. I don't really understand it as she only drives maybe 4 miles to work and back each day and there isn't much highway travel. I'm wondering if I should switch back to using OEM pads/rotors. Torch 08-27-2007, 11:57 PM Hi, Yes this car eats cheap brakes, and certain brands of "Organic" break pads will make the breaks squeal like hell, I ended up going with ceramic breaks, they were a little more expensive but they don't squeal at all and have lasted for 8,000 miles so far. searcherrr 08-28-2007, 07:32 AM Hi, Yes this car eats cheap brakes, and certain brands of "Organic" break pads will make the breaks squeal like hell, I ended up going with ceramic breaks, they were a little more expensive but they don't squeal at all and have lasted for 8,000 miles so far. I know it might be some trouble to see, but after 8k miles do you know how much % pad life you have left? Torch 08-28-2007, 11:19 PM Oooops, I though I had clicked on the Suzuki forum last night... Well anyway, I have a 1999 Suzuki Esteem, my front pads have approx 5/16 or 3/8 (hard to tell) of an inch of pad left on them. JudoJohn 08-30-2007, 09:22 PM i have an '02 Sentra and i got over 100K out of my front brakes. and i consider me to be hard on brakes! i think maybe the calipers are sticking a bit, causing more wear. Check those out and see. mmm_2000 01-14-2008, 11:03 PM Some people "ride" the brake pedal and that could cause excessive brake fade ! I ran my original front brakes for 70k miles before changing pads and rotors in the front. Also a problem might be the calipers, but u didnt say if its only one side fading fast or both sides ! Even organic pads should last a minimum of 25k miles with a regular driver. Buy good pads (Performance Friction from Kragen.com are great, or satisfied ceramics also from kragen.com ) ! Dont ever buy cheap brakes !!!! nismo_pilot 01-15-2008, 12:56 AM you have a def problem, either shes riding the brakes or the pads are riding on the rotors, bleed the brakes and refill the system with fresh fluid, then make sure shes not riding the pedal slideways... 01-16-2008, 02:56 PM and dont buy brakes from vatozone. get either thermoquiets from oreilly, quietstops or PG plus from checker. or best of all, genuine nissan brakes. rotors i would go with some brembo OEM blanks. you should be able to order them from many parts stores, just talk to a manager or someone whos not an idiot. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
