Front end problem

I took my JGC in for an allignment due to a shake in the steering wheel after hitting a bump. I was told that my right ball joints were bad and while I'm at it i just as well change the left side ball joints. They said the track bar was bad and that I also needed to change both sway bars because when the track bar goes bad in a JGC, it takes out the sway bar links along with it. They also said that the control arm bushings were shot and would have to be replaced. Roughly, $1200 for them to do all of this.

I can take care of everything but I am being told that it requires special tools to replace the control arm bushings. Is it possible to cange then without the special tools? If so, can you tell me how?

Can you just change bushings in the track bar and sway links as well or is it better to buy new parts?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I'm sorry but I have no clue what kind of "special tools" you need fo this. I suggest you post this int he GRAND Cherokee Forums. They will be better able to assist you.

On my XJ, the CA are held on my TORX bolts. Ball joints can be pounded out with a big hammer (If you're careful) or you can buy a ball joint tool fairly cheaply at Harbor Freight. (http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/web/search.do?keyword=ball+joint&Submit=Go)

I replaced my sway bar end link on driver side about 3-4 weeks ago, nothing special was needed for that and cost about $28 a piece, which I am going to replace passenger side as well to see if that cures my problem. I would just buy that completely new and not just the bushings on that part. If you think you can do all by yourself then do it is what I say. If any special tools are needed(none I would know of except ball joint seperator) you may be able to rent them from your local auto parts store, I know Advance Auto Parts will let you use tools but need to put money down till you you return them and then you get the money back.
