Hello All,

I recently acquired a nice Spec V after much searching. It does have some aftermarket additions. Tein shocks/struts, DC header, GReddy Cold Air kit, and I believe a GReddy exhaust if not just muffler. I have not gotten under the car yet myself to inspect everything but the car seems to run pretty good. My concerns at this point though are when I let off the throttle and every now and then I'll get some back pressure coming through the exhaust. Is this normal when some of these aftermarket parts on installed?

The other thing that i noticed compared to my last car, is how hot the engine compartment gets. Mainly where the hood prop is. I don't know if that is because of the header being in the front instead of the rear or if the Sentra just runs hot. My temp gauge seems to be working and shows normal when running.

The other concern is it seems harder then usual to put the shifter into 3rd gear. I was planning on installing a short shifter kit and new clutch in the spring. Would this help with that or is there something else at the root of the problem.

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks!

1st thing you need to do, if you haven't already, if loctite the butterfly screws. This is a MUST. b15sentra.net and myspecv.com are great sources of information on spec v's.

My engine compartment gets very hot, also. Just keep an eye on the temp guage. You can get a greddy air diverter and/or nismo oil cap to help cool it down. Or you could go get your header powder coated...

As far as 3rd gear goes, I suggest changing your transmission fluid to "redline". That seems to be the most effective. Some people say getting a short shifter helps, but mine didn't help that much on smooth shifting. Spec V trannys are very crunchy. Just don't force it into gear if the car doesn't want to go into 3rd. Jiggle it around, put it in 4th, then try to put it back into 3rd and feel it out.

I don't completely understand what you mean when you say you can tell when the car has back pressure, but if you have a header, I strongly suggest buying a 2.5 " cat back system.

P.S. - if you're going to install a new clutch, I HIGH suggest a new flywheel. The best combos for the spec are: JWT clutch and flywheel -OR- Clutchmaster stage 3 and a fidanza flywheel. I have heard great things about that combo.

Welcome to the Spec V/b15 community! Any pic of the car?
