When i bought my car from a friend he had a ViS carbon fiber hood on it, i think he forgot to do SOMETHING to it because the heat from the turbo and the sun literally killed it...there is color fade and hell of alot of cracks on it. I was thinking of getting the same hood but what can I do to prevent damage like this from occuring again?

Put a heat shield over your manifold as its usually a problem for these hoods. As far as the sun damage goes, all you can do is wax/polish it and take care of it as you would any other clear coat surface...

I don't Think VIS puts a good clear over their hoods because I have two buddies that bought VIS hoods (one on a 96 rs and one on an 04 evo), and they both had problems with the clear fading and cracking. And I know the guy with the evo maintained his hood like he was supposed to and he still had problems with it. When he contacted VIS about their defective quality hood, they didnt want to do anything about it and they were real jack asses over the phone, so he was just like fuck it. And neither one of these cars had heat problems to contribute to the crackin/fading, since the eclipse was non turbo and the evo was stock.

I'm going to be buying a carbon hood for both my eg civic and my turbo eclipse. I probably wont buy a VIS one though. But for the eclipse I'm going to line the entire underside of the hood with dynamat dynaliner to keep the heat off the hood to prolong the finish.
