Jeep is a dead stick 2mazingo 08-23-2007, 08:12 PM I actually posted this in the Cherokee forum by mistake, so here I go again.:grinyes: Hey guys, My buddy has a 04 or 05 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L and it is dead. It has been stalling some and at first we thought it was just the IAC, but the speedometer would jump around 30+/- mph when it did stall. Then today it died, luckily he was about to park it. It will turn over but wont start, the guages read zip, and the fuel pump is not coming on. Also there is a NO KEY light flashing in the gauges, and the key is in it. I think it is a no key light ... it is a key in a circle with a slash through it and it is yellow in color. There has never been any code or even a check engine light on. After reading the sticky at the to of the forum, I think it is his ignition switch, am I on th right track? Bob D. 08-24-2007, 10:44 PM You don't know the year? There was a big makeover in 2005, you need to know the correct year before starting any repairs. Hint: If it is a 4.0 liter it's not a 2005. Sounds like a problem with the security system or wrong/damaged key - the key has a security encrypted chip in it. If you have two keys you can reprogram it yourself. Check for codes using the key ON/OFF method. Bob D. 09-02-2007, 06:53 AM Additional info on the security system and SKIM module: The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM module) contains a Radio Frequency (RF) transceiver and a microprocessor. The SKIM transmits RF signals to, and receives RF signals from the Sentry Key transponder through a tuned antenna ring integral to the SKIM housing. When the ignition switch is turned to the On position, the SKIM transmits an RF signal to the transponder in the ignition key. The SKIM then waits for an RF signal response from the transponder. If the response received identifies the key as valid, the SKIM sends a valid key message to the PCM over the PCI data bus. If the response received identifies the key as invalid, or if no response is received from the key transponder, the SKIM sends an invalid key message to the PCM. The PCM will enable or disable engine operation based upon the status of the SKIM messages. mazingo 09-02-2007, 10:05 AM Is there a way of reprogramming the SKIM or is there a common fix for this problem?? We tried both keys and saw no difference. Bob D. 09-03-2007, 10:39 PM You'll have to take it to the dealer, a DRBIII scan tool is needed to reprogram the SKIM.
