I have a 1995 Grnad Cherokee Laredo, 8cyl., 4wd. A few weeks ago it started making a slight whining noise like the sound a rear end makes when it starts to go bad. (I know what this sounds like since I just changed the rear end out last fall, the gears were getting pretty chewed up.) I checked both wheel bearings in the front and replaced the driver side front axle (boot was ripped pretty bad) and replaced the driver side wheel bearing. Both were bad. Took it for a ride and the sound still remains. Afew days later the sound is getting lounder and after 3 weeks now you can here it coming down the road. Next I took off the front differnetial cover and changed the fluid, no metal shavings, gears still appear almost new, not chewed up or worn out at all, thought maybe it was the bearings on the ends of the axleshafts inside the front differential so I had a machine shop remove and press new bearings on the shafts, reassembled the front differential, took it for a ride and it is still making the same noise. The only thing left to replace is the pinion bearings and after closer inspection I have notices a slight leak from the seal in the rear of the front differential. I have tried everything I know to try to get the nut and yoke off to change the bearings in the rear of the front diff. but that nut will not budge.:frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

Can anyone tell me how to do this the easiest way without taking it to a garage? And can anyone tell me that once I get the nut and yoke off how easy it is to remove and replace the bearings? Are they a pressed fit or do they come out relatively easy? Does the '95 have one bearing or do I have to replace two bearings, inside and outside rear?

PLEASE HELP. This is my wife and I's only vehicle and we are wits end with fixing this machine. Just replaced the crankshaft sensor a month ago, not the 15 minute one but the 10 hour one where you have to take half the engine apart and almost all of the exhaust, etc. New fuel pump = $650 a month ago and the list goes on.:frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

Anyway, if someone could please help me with my current problem at hand would be great.

Sounds like the same noise I am having in the front end of mine as well. Hope it isn't nothing like you are talking about cause I will get rid off it, unless I can find another whole front end to replace it with instead...CHEAP!!!
Have you considered that, replacing the whole front end with a good used one from a junkyard? That is what I am thinking about doing if I have the same problem. All depends on the final price after carefull consideration of what I would need to do and buy.

Unless you have a Impact Wrench and some of them dont have enough power , you will have to use a cheater a piece of pipe 2or 3 ft. long to slip over your breaker bar. Make sure you have the Right Socket cant remember the size and use plenty of penetrating oil and some heat to the nut.
The Bearings are pressed on 2 sides and pinion bearings. If you havent done this you better get a manual or there are some Jeep sites that give you step by step instructions, it get complicated whith all the spacers and and setting the side bearing pre load and gear back lash. The noise is probally your pinion bearings. If you tear it down I would replace all the bearings. They sell bearing kits on E bay around a 100 or you can go to the salvage yard and try to find the complete diff . Try to find one that has been wrecked. It should be a Danna 30 with 373 Gearing.
Good Luck
