Differential Fluid

Hi there :)

I have a 2001 Xterra, 4x4, manual transmission, with about 140K miles. Everytime I go to JiffyLube to get an oil change, they tell me that my 'differential fluid' needs replacing. They go so far as to show me 'normal' differential fluid and 'mine'. The difference seems small to me. 'Mine' is slightly darker (more brown), and has a few smal particles in it.

As far as I know, I have never had it changed. I also have never had any problems with anything mechanical on the car. As a woman, I never know if auto people are just taking advantage of me to get extra money. Is this something that I should have changed? What could happen if it does need changing and I do nothing?

Thanks for any advice!
Kelly

If your like most people here, and 4 wheel often then you'd want to change it every year. If just normal driving then every 60,000 miles.
