Is it difficult to change tranny fluid and filters on 2002 G.Cherokee laredo?capoeta 08-21-2007, 03:48 PM I need to change the tranny fluid on this vehicle. Are there any special tools or procedures for changing the fluid and filters? I know about the ATF4 and I would probably change it again after 2 weeks since I would not be able to empty the torque converter. thanks for input.. vehicle is 6 Cyl. Auto Goldfishy 08-23-2007, 04:56 AM I just did mine, it's a 99', but don't know if the tranny's any different from yours. I have about 185,000 original mi. on the same engine/tranny. There's 14 bolts on the pan, just loosen them all, but let the fluid drain to one end first, less messy. To remove the metal filter, use a hex head. No special tools needed. I went to buy the tranny kit from Auto Zone ($19) and ended up returning it and going to the dealership ($47), as the aftermarket filter was a paper type versus the dealership enclosed metal filter. It cost more at the dealer, but it looked more rugged and the gasket was of a better material (stiffer and not that cheaper rubber type). I used the MOPAR ATF+4 purchased at Wallymart, and it's been a little over 1,000 miles now, what a difference in the smoother shifting and quieter too. I'm not going to bother changing out again until the next change, as long as it seems to be running fine. I didn't see any metal pieces in the filter or magnet, just some of the normal real fine-like metal dust. capoeta 08-28-2007, 02:48 PM thanks for response.. how many quarts did you use?
