Brakesvandok13 08-19-2007, 11:37 PM I feel pretty retarted asking this but i cant get my drums off the rear brakes, is there a special way of doing it? with my f250 they just came right off with a little nock of a hammer. Toyotas are truly a hole different species of truck. Its a 1988 4runner automatic?any help much apprectiated Brian R. 08-21-2007, 06:46 PM If you already backed off the adjusting star wheel, just hit it harder at various points - from the back. It will come loose. fourwd1 08-22-2007, 11:59 AM Keep hammering, also spray penetrant around lugs and center hub. Also, there are 2 threaded holes, between lugs and opposite each other, for screwing in 8 or 10 mm bolts (can't recall) to force the drum off. Brian R. 08-22-2007, 04:17 PM Actually, I don't think that model had the threaded holes, but I might be wrong.... If I remember correctly, they only put those holes in the disc brakes rotors since you can't beat on the rotors the same way you can beat on drums. fourwd1 08-23-2007, 12:24 PM I don't think you're remembering correctly.
