2001 sebring convertible headrest removal

I am trying to remove the headrests on my 2001 sebring convertible to allow new seatcovers I bought to be installed. Pressing the release latch on the one post lets it raise but acts like the other post (without a lock) is keeping it from lifting out of the seat. Can anyone help me with this problem?

did you ever find out the answer? I am having the same problem.

We cannot remove the headrest from a 2000 chrysler sebring to put seatcovers on.

You have to remove the small plastic covering for the side without the lock. I did this by prying (gently) with a flat head screwdriver under the outer edge of the cover. Once the cover pops up, you will see that there is a spring loaded lock. Basically, it's the same lock as the other side but there is no button. Once you see it, it should be pretty obvious how to release the lock. Press the tab to compress the springs and the headrest will lift right out.

Hope this helps.
