Rear window issuesgtmud 08-19-2007, 04:38 PM I have an 89 Xj and the other day I noticed that the rear glass of the liftgate had popped out from the weatherstripping. Nothing looks broke. Is this a ""common" issue on these older jeeps, and is there a fix, ie replacement of the weather stripping(seal) around the window itself. Saudade 08-19-2007, 05:02 PM I think the seal/gasket is all that holds the rear window in. I've read where it's popped out on people on the trail after a good hit. There's a trick of wrapping a strong cord in the outer channel and using it to slip the window back into the opening. If the seal is still good, you may only need to reseat it. gtmud 08-19-2007, 09:31 PM Thanks, I didn't notice any damage to the seal. This happened just sitting in my pole barn for about 2 months. Will try to reseat it. wwwildman 08-20-2007, 07:12 PM My sons 89 and daughters 90 both did the same thing. I just use two screwdrivers to carefully put the window and seal back in. If you want you can get some adhesive for the seal to door joint. If you use the two screwdrivers, just go slow and be careful, that way you won't scratch the glass or rip the seal. If you put any pressure on your back window, it will pop out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
