my wife had the oil light come on today so i checked the oil. 2 1/2 qts low so i got to looking. the leak is coming from the top end but i cant tell if its head or intake gasket. the leak is in the middle of the motor on both sides (drive belt side not as bad as flywheel side) so i think that it is the intake. but i dont know if it is possible for the head to leak from under the intake. also does the distributor shaft plug have a seal or is it pressed in the hole.
and btw the coolant is nice and green and the oil is not milky at all.

The oil pump drive is definitely one cause, very common problem on these engines. There is an o-ring seal that hardens with age and starts to leak. When replacing it, you'll have to remove the throttle body to gain access. I also use and old small block Chevy distributor gasket as added insurance against future o-ring failure. Fel-Pro part numbers are 70800 for the o-ring, and 70194 for the paper SB chevy gasket. The oil around the other end is probably a valve cover gasket, as the 90-93 3.1's don't have the intake gasket issues like the newer 94-ups do.
