Where Is The Ecm!!!!fempersi 08-16-2007, 04:52 PM I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THE ECM GOES.........MY ALTERNATOR IS SHOT SO MY BATTERY DIED ON THE WAY HOME SOMEONE GAVE ME A JUMP AND WHILE I WENT TO GO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE TRUCK HE HOOKED UP THE CABLES BACKWARDS............:shakehead :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: 1983 CHEVY S10 LONGBED MT-2500 08-17-2007, 09:38 AM PCM is usually close to glove box behind or under and sometimes if n kick panel. But have you checked things out. Fuse links and fuses and wiring and cables. Charge battery up first thing and start checking it out. Will the engine crank over? Have you got spark and gas? fempersi 08-17-2007, 11:46 AM If the fuse links are bad how would i be able to tell and are they hard, costly to replace? MT-2500 08-17-2007, 12:15 PM Proper testing first. Charge up the battery and see if it will crank over. Then you can go from there. fempersi 08-21-2007, 12:11 PM I found out the ecm,pcm,.....is not bad its the starter thats bad. should i just replace it all? how much would it cost? MT-2500 08-21-2007, 01:09 PM Without the milage on starter and knowing what is bad on it. We can not say for sure. But with high mileage there is a good chance the starter is worn out. The 83 starters were hard on brushes and bushings and starter drives and starter solenoids. But labor and parts to rebuild a starter usually exceeds a rebuilt or new starter. What part is faling or bad on yours? Are you sure starter is bad or just cables or battery or connections or starter saftey switch? Check it out good first. If it was me and starter is bad I would go a good quality rebuilt or a brand new starter. Price out both. And go from there vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
