12.9 myth?

i'm trying to prove/disprove a rumor i've over-heard a few times (from suby owners mainly)...

that a bone-stock 2004+ WRX sti can run 12.9 1/4 quarter mile time, and even a couple rumors of 12.7, on a completely stock setup.

please don't post, "well its possible w/ the right driver, or if the conditions were right"...obviously a lot of things have to do with 1/4 times (driver's ability, temperature, humidity, etc)...that's a given....but w/ those variables being optimal, can the stock WRX sti run around 12.9 1/4 mile time stock?

personally i believe that it could, but i've never personally seen it happen at the track, and without any evidence like that it's kind of hard to plead a case w/ someone. so if anyone has witnessed it or has a video proving it please reply. thanks.

it'd be nice to see some of those timeslips, however, i think the only real way to prove a time is by video w/ the time as they cross the trap line. if there was a timeslip that you could somehow have proof of what car ran that time it'd be valid. unfortunately you really can't....so video is the only conclusive evidence.

Sounds to me more than likely this troll doesn't want to hear the car can run a sub-13 second 1/4

on the contrary man...i like subarus....i used to have a 2.0 WRX and was going to get an Sti before i got my VR4 and S4. i believe highly that it can run a sub 13 second...cause i've actually seen that in person, plus its come from a creditable source (car & driver) that it runs 13.3/4. like i said in the original post i'm trying to prove a rumor w/ some sort of concrete evidence....it'd be awesome if it could....but with this post being up for a couple months now and nothing, i'd have to say this myth is pretty much "busted".

get a clue. :screwy:

look at what some magazines pulled with the cars, such as Motor Trend, Car and Driver or Road and Track

the best i ever saw in any of those magazines was 13.3....and i think i read the article in each. i might double-check, that would give at least a reliable source if one of them got 12.9 out of it.

4/10ths of a second would be hard to pull off improvement even over the worst driver..
But with the right wether conditions track, and driver..As in conditions....
But 4/10ths to pick up in a stock car would be hard.... But ad race fuel... and start the car about 2 minutes before the run with the hood up till just before the run...... Conditions conditions conditions...
But maybe with race fuel.....
