1997 F150 4x4 4.2 AT engine removalmalroy 08-15-2007, 07:23 PM Removing bad motor. I have loosened all but the engine to trans bolts. Can,t get to the top ones. How do I get the clearance to get my hands and tools in there? I have the throttle body air plenum removed. taillight 08-16-2007, 09:36 AM Either drop the transmission tail down or pull the transmission. I usually pull the trans. with the engine. Either way you still have to remove the transfer case first. malroy 08-18-2007, 10:07 AM I feel sure my 4.2L has crankshaft/rod problems. Can I pull the intake manifold and heads to get clearance to remove the top two engine to trans bolts. Pull the old block. Then intall a remanufactured short block. Bolt it to the trans then install the heads and intake. :grinyes: taillight 08-18-2007, 01:11 PM Maybe but there is still not much room. Make sure you unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel befor you pull the engine. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
