96 Camry That Aspires to be an OvenMordacity 08-15-2007, 12:42 PM Alright so, for a couple of months, my AC has been cutting in and out at random intervals. I'd just be driving and then the AC button would start flashing and a nice blast of hot, humid air would sputter out of the vents in an automotive 'eff you man.' The fan was still working and for awhile just pushing the button off and on again would start it up again, but it became harder to get going as time went on. Finally it cut our for a long time on my lunch break, in the middle of the summer of course, so I took it to get looked at. The mechanics said nothing was wrong. It was cooling at 52 degrees and stayed on the whole day they had it. Just to be safe they replaced the sensor and some of the wiring and handed it back to me thinkking I was a little retarded. :banghead: Well it at least shortened the length of time the cooling stopped, but then earlier this week, I was driving and as soon as I hit 65, bam hot air started blowing and wouldn't come back. When I slowed down again and got off the highway it popped back on. I figured it was a speed thing, so I was a bit agrevated but content because at least I knew how to avoid it... Well yesterday, the hottest day of the summer so far, it cut off again and wouldn't turn on. The light kept blinking and the fan kept pumping but only hot air came out. This time it didn't even pop on once I had parked my car and turned it off and when it had been working it stayed on while I drove above 65. My next thought was that maybe it was just the heat of the engine, because it spends all day sitting out in the sun, but this morning the AC system still wouldn't cool after the car was off all night in the cool. :bricks1: any ideas? RIP 08-15-2007, 02:33 PM Welcome to the forum. A flashing AC light means the compressor clutch isn't engaging correctly when commanded. Lots of info in this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=698012&highlight=camry+AC+light davemac2 08-15-2007, 03:09 PM You may have a slipping serpentine belt. Are you getting any squealing of the belt in the morning on a cold start at all or when the A/C is first turned on? How is the belt tensioner? How old? Any noises at all when the A/C is first turned on? dave mc Mordacity 08-15-2007, 06:36 PM Nope definately no squealing. And apparently I have a 95 instead of a 96... yeah it's been a good day. Thanks for the welcome and the thread RIP, and thanks for the ventured guess oh mighty davemac2. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
