Fumes from A/C

I've got a '92 Camry V6 XLS that has exhaust like fumes that come from the vents when the a/c is on. The fumes aren't noticable with just the fan running or when the fan is off. I replaced the weather strip that fits between the cowl and the hood. The smell is noticable in your clothes and lungs. It doesn't smell like antifreeze, mold/mildew or gas.

Any ideas where the fumes are coming from and how to fix it???

What path does the outside air take to get cooled by the air conditioner and also to go directly to the vents without getting cooled??
Thanks

Since you say you can't smell it with the fan-only or off position, that kind of eliminates the vent fan and air intake itself, no? The air intake is the same as the vent-only intake below the windshield. Maybe there is a dead animal or something else up against the evaporator core that is causing it? It could also still be a leak in your A/C at the evaporator, and the evaporator is saturated in PAG oil causing that possibly oily smell you are smelling? If this is a possibility, then have a dye injected into the A/C system and get yourself a UV flashlight for $15 off Ebay. A few days after the dye is injected, have a look at the water that comes off the evaporator drain line under the car under the UV light and see if it is fluorescing.
