05 Caravan Rear Disc Brakescj7ryan 08-10-2007, 10:48 PM Hello, I cannot figure out how to remove the brake assembly from the rear of my 2005 Grand Caravan. I replaced the front brakes with no problem, but I don't understand what I am doing wrong on the rear brakes. There are four bolts that seem to hold it on. I removed those. After this, I banged around with a hammer to see if rust was holding it on and I could loosen it up. No luck. I tried some gentle prying. No luck. Is there a secret to getting this thing off, or am I being dumb? I would go pick up a Hayne's or Chilton manual, but all the stores are closed now, so I would appreciate any ideas any of you have. If this has already been addressed, please point me to the old post, I couldn't find one using the search feature. Thank you. RIP 08-10-2007, 11:55 PM Welcome to the forum. I've never touched rear disk brakes but I would imagine there may be an adjuster you have to back off as on drum brakes. Maybe not. KManiac 08-12-2007, 11:20 AM Now I don't know if the 2005 rear disc design differs from the 1998, but I can tell you how I removed the calipers from my 1998. On mine, each caliper was held on the two guide pins. These were Allan slot screws (hexigon shaped). I removed the two guide pins and the calipers slipped off, just like the fronts. Now, if you are trying to remove the discs from the hubs, be sure the parking brake is released. The parking brake is separate and consists of miniture shoes inside the internal drum of the rotor. I can't seem to imagine where you would find four bolts unless you are referring to the four bolts that hold the bearing assembly to the backing plate. By the way, since you have rear disc brakes, can I assume you have "All Wheel Drive" (AWD)?!? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
