I have a early 90's TA model I was wanting make the doors open.
Well I got the door cut out pretty good(minus the skin on my finger), heres a pic..
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/Dsc00173.jpg

Here was my first attempt at a hinge.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/Dsc173.jpg

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/Dsc00174.jpg

My second attempt I relocated the hinge and bent the wires. Still no worki .....

I just cant figure this out :banghead:
I was thinking the tube part needs to be out from the fender more, or puttin a tube on the door too.....

Any one done this before ?

Any pics or help in general would be greatly appreciated! :grinyes:

From the pics it looks like you are putting the hinge too far in to the body hence leaving it no room to swing..Here's another option:

Thanks for the help guys !!

That car in the link is bad ass !
Brass door and hinges, thats way ahead of my modeling skills at this time. :grinyes:

This is just a crapy model that was bound for file 13,
so I've been playing around.

Initially Steve that was what I was trying to do but I just gave up to soon.
I thought that one might get in the way of the dash.. :dunno: That is a good idea though.

Which at first I did have the door jamb all fitted, but took the front jamb off to make a different hinge...

And yet I figured out another way to make them,
though I dont know if it'll work.
Thiers not much room to work with thats for sure.

Something like this for now...

I'll post back when I finish,,,, banging my head :smokin:

ps- I did try doin a search but was overwhelmed with all the finds and none I looked at had anything that was pertinent to what I was doing.

thankx again !

I scrapped out the previous idea, wouldnt work that close together :(

So I went with Steves idea, and it worked !!! :D

I placed two tubes inside the door so the wires/hinge
had somewhere to easily attach and align the door.

Now the trick is duplicating it on the other side :sly:
Might even try and do the trunk .... maybe :p

I would think about it the other way around:
have the tube part of the hinge on the door and the arms stuck to the body, that way the door would hinge/rotate at a point and there wouldn't be any real moving parts.

It's not very clear but here's how I did my old 911 GT3 doors.

the tube on the body had been painted red to hide it...
it's not accurate to the real hinge but it opens correctly (into body).

......after maybe 10 goes at getting the alignment of the door right......
a good pair of needle nose pliers helps.

Yea it took me 30-40 minutes of trial and error to get the hinge in working order. Luckily I have some tiny needle nose and that helped a lot !
My big meat hooks are all clumbsy and dont work well with these tiny parts.

Funny the add below has a hinge in it... what irony!

Well I made the left door hinge smaller and have now cut out the drivers door.... and the trunk ! :naughty:

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/trunklid_glass.jpg

These two should move more smoothly since I'm experianced now

Wish me luck on the back hatch/trunk , this'll be fun ! :grinno:

Well I have the doors and back hatch completed , but its not perfect as I'd like....
I still need to fab hinges for the hood,
In the process of making hood scoops first though.

This model is total crap anyway, its a AMT if that means anything to you all.
My boys said things didnt fit right and they were not jokin!
Did come with a nice pulley/belt piece.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/serpentine.jpg

I am at the body-to-chassis fitment and it's slow goin,
thats for sure.
You can see they made two right hand tail pipes tips.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/bottom.jpg

This is where I had to modify for the door hinges.
Very crud lookin :disappoin

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/zfdghhdh.jpg
I guess for my first attempt at these mods,
on such a small scale, it isnt to bad. :dunno:

Here are pics of the last model I built ...
about 10 yrs ago , monogram :D

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/Interior.jpg

That has also been my model for my real 69 GTX I've been working on,
for about the last 10 yrs also :banghead:

Well I guess I'm as finished with this experiment :)

Here is the hood scoop and snorkle.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/Ram_air_1.jpg

I decided to throw on some paint, not to shabby!
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/hood_scoop.jpg
I tried a crackle finish on the hood but it didnt take :disappoin
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/blue_bird2.jpg

Under the hood, I made a hood prop and an air box for the ram air hood.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/engineclose_up.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/Ramairhood3.jpg

While I was waiting for paint to dry, I used some chrome sprues that the parts came on to make a chopper frame
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c242/xeroinfinity/models%20two/chopper_1.jpg

Kinda got me inspired to build a new large scale model :grinyes:
