I hope someone can help me. My horn and cruise control have stopped working on my 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. Actually, everything on the steering wheel stopped working. Also, I don't know if it's related or not, but my airbag light is staying on constantly. Please help!

Thanks!
Gail

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a classic clockspring failure. What's that? The clockspring is a coil of wire that extends and retracts as you turn the steering wheel. It completes the circuit for all the switches on the steering wheel including your airbag, cruise control, and horn. It is located directly behind the airbag on the steering wheel. That's the pad you push to sound the horn.

There was a recall on clocksprings for many 96-2000 minivans. I believe I read somewhere the warranty has been extended on clocksprings. Check with your dealership to confirm. They will need your VIN number.

I agree with RIP. Definitely a clockspring failure and should be replaced free.

As everyone said its the clockspring in the steering wheel . This may be covered under a recall for that era . this will fix all your problems once replaced .

My understanding is it's an unlimited recall, and the dealer will fix it for free.

They replaced my clock spring under recall on my 1997 GV with 180K miles. This is a recall item that has no mileage limitations. I had to press my dealer to search for the revised recall but it saved me 400+$.
