My dad's car, an 02 Regal with the 3.4 V6, 50k miles, suddenly developed a problem. It seems to just shut off once things get warmed up. Had to be towed home over the weekend. The car started up fine the next morning. Our neighbor is the head mechanic at the Buick dealer that they purchased the car from. He brought his computer home on Monday night and determined that the BCM (Body Control Module) needs to be replaced (he thinks). I guess he is replacing it tonight. He said that he's never seen this problem though, EVER before. Seems kinda odd to me. Just searching for information about this.

Thanks in advance.

Your Regal should have either the normally aspirated Series II 3800 engine if LS or supercharged if a GS/GSE model. It does not have a 3400.

It would help to post the DTC the mechanic retrieved. It could be the BCM module if it was a Chassis/Passkey VATS related problem but no way to tell for sure without a code(s).

Do you have any SES, SVS or Security lights on?

Yeah, you were right (as stated-father's car, i'm not too familiar with it) It is the non-supercharged 3.8 liter. They installed the new BCM last night with no luck. Got a new computer coming for it Friday.

I live about 4 hrs away from my parents, thought I'd try finding out what I could based on the limited information that I have from them. All my dad said was that the dash lights were going off like crazy. I don't have the actual code though.

thanks for your help.

Problem solved, it was the computer.
