Overheating Problems, Possible Solutions?

Alright well ever since ive swapped my SR its always ran somewhat hot. but this is true with any SR from what i understand... but heres where i sit.

My engine often overheats ( 230 degrees + ) mostly during the heat of day, i took my thermostat out because it was bad, but i dont see how that would make me run as hot as i do, if anything it should run cooler since it will always be flowing. Second, i once overheated far to much one day as i was running hardly anywater in my system, and spewed white smoke everywhere so my Headgasket could be bad, ive i have yet to do a compression check. Three i swapped in an autometer water temp gauge, but didnt mount the new temp sensor that came with it and just wired up the stock sensor to it. so it could be, but i doubt it cause my engine is HOT and water comes out the overflow tank regularly..

any input or experiences will be appreciated

[EDIT] I have a Koyo and a single Electric fan around 3000cfm

how much power is your sr putting out?? maybe time for a bigger radiator, koyo have some crazzzyy radiators, 2 row aluminium, but you have to upgrade your thermostat and hoses, i got one from my work for my mate, he said its a crazzyy radiator and helps alot with overall temp. i work at a radiator wholesaler and koyo and pwr rads are the best out there.

well if your runnign a small rad. and no thermostat. your not giving your water any time to cooldown. its contunios flow is leaving engine and going right back in.

Already Running A Koyo as i mentioned earlier, would no thermostat cause that much of a heating problem? im pretty sure the koyo is large enough to cool it down.. im thinking maybe im not getting enough airflow through it though, since my Front mount probably soaks up a lot of it.

If its airflow you're worried about, try looking into some cooling panels. I just ordered a Sig Auto cooling panel for a little over $100.

why in the fuck do all SR newbs take out the CLUTCH FAN!??!?!?

keep the fan and use the fan shrowed. make sure u change hat OLD water pump , and replace all the hoses and replace the radiator cap too!

dude i raced my car all day long at willo springs like 60+ times and i never over heated my car. all i had was new S14 water pump, nismo cap and thermostat and koyo radiator new clutch fan. ( i had no AC )

I took out the clutch fan because the KA fan shroud doesnt match up with the SR clutch fan.

lol.. take out shroud. put in clutch fan. make sure no wires/hoses hit fan. problem fixed? when i bought my car it had no fan. i thougth wtf?.. but since it was winter never had problem. But when summer came around guess what. i put a damn fan on that car asap.

^^^ please dont post if your going to give mis-guided info.

running with no thermostat will cause the car to run cooler, NOT hotter. a thermostat is NOT intented to keep the coolant cooler, but to keep the motor at OPERATING TEMP.....

MOST of the time a clutch fan is useless without the shroud as it doesnt direct the airflow as effectively without it.

i would do what AWDSR20 said suggested change out your water pump, new nismo thermostat, put the clutch fan back on WITH the shroud. Yes it doesnt fit like stock so modify it to fit, its not that difficult. I would also suggest you make 110% you bled the system properly....as improper bleeding technique is usually 50% the cause of an overheating SR....

done and done.

Well turns out my electric fan was just POS, never buy a permacool fan.. they just suck.

i went to the junkyard and bought a used Altima electric fan which is double fanned, shrouded, and fits the radiator almost perfectly, very little modification needed.

my temps havent gone over 195 since,

gooood booooy. ^^ this guys a smart cookie.

but you should still check your head gasket condition. dont do a compression check, order a tester kit. it tests your coolant for presence of combustion gasses. sometimes a compression check wont show anything wrong on a car with a bad hg

Bingo! Seen this happen before, and many people have difficulty diagnosing this. And since you've greatly over heated your car before, there is a pretty good possibility of a bad head gasket.
Do put a new water pump, pressure cap, and thermostat in first, like said before, see how it goes.
