Kinda new to the Camaro world

Well as my friends over in the B.M.C. (Black Mustang Club) would say I have joined the Dark Side. I just traded my 83 Mustang with a 87 302 and a 302 out of a 68 Mustang for a 91 Camaro RS 3.1 with T-Tops and a 22' car trailer.

Kinda curious if there is anything I should expect form this car. I have been driving a 95 Z28 around this summer and I dont really like it. The car looses controll if there is even a small amount of dirt on the road. It rubs and scrapes the bottom everywhere, and I really hate all the plastic on it lol. I like good ole metal.

The 91 needs some work and I am gonna miss my baby... Ive had that mustang for years and have alot into it but it has been sitting for 2 years in pieces.

The camaro currently needs some floorboard work but nothing major from what I understand and the passanger side has a crase down it.

Sorry if the images are too large I just formated my pc and dont have photoshop installed.

I am kinda curious how hard it would be to drop in a 60s-70s SBC in there? Or maby a 80s-90s 305-350

If its too hard what would be a good place to start in upgrades for the 3.1? I might be able to put in $200-$300 soon and I was thinking either a Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back exhaust from summit or a Hypertech Street Runner Power Chip.

What gains if any could I expect from those? I know it will be nowhere near my mustang or sound like it but change is good sometimes.

EDIT.... Wow those are some big pics.... I didnt realise they were that large lol I will have to install photoshot asap

Dynomax... meh... make sure what you're getting is what you want. I ordered a set of BBC headers for a 454, I wanted 2.25" primaries, guy tells me they only make one size... I get them and the primaries were 1.5". Idiots. Sent them back and got a set of Hookers with 2-1/8" primaries for $20 more.

Engine swap shouldn't be TERRIBLY difficult, provided you have / can get one for a decent price. One of the 3gen guys will help you out.

Welcome to the forums.

Sorry bout the pics guys. Was in a hurry to get out and wash the 95 Z28 in my driveway while it was still cool and forgot to remove the pics. When I remembered I couldnt find the thread lol

I will resize them tonight. Or better yet take better ones in a couple days when I get the car in my driveway next to this monster.

Go'n down tomorrow to pick it up.

Im gonna miss my mustang alot but the body is starting to show stress from too much power. The Fox just wasnt made to handle alot of power without mods and the guy who is gett'n it has some nice plans for it and an empty storage unit just for it. Alot better than it spending a maine winter outside in my driveway.

Yes thats probably the fate of the camaro lol. Only reason I care bout the stang is sentimental value. All those years spent work'n on it with my dad and soon I will have those values with the camaro.

Its a friends. He has been letting me drive it for the summer as he had back surgery and cant even get into it anymore. He also has it up for sale but I got no clue what he wants for it.

He says its got an interceptor chip in it and a rebuilt trans with shift kit but my dad and I think it migh have been camed.

I dont really like it at all ... Fun to drive but man it has no traction on theese maine roads. I just hope my 91 will be better when I get a V8 in it. My 83 stang griped to no end.

And a bit too new for me.... I dont like newer cars much. Dont really even like 80s cars lol or most 70s for that matter. I like my oldies

Congrats on your purchase.. Good looking car.. and Welcome to the Darkside... ;)

your traction problem on your friends car is probably due to cheap tires and a bad suspension set-up

Cobra427
08-01-2007, 07:43 PM
Best tires he could get at the shop here and stock suspension.

Well Im a bit pissed. The guy lied to bad it isnt funny. He had the car all loaded when we got there and we could not inspect it too well.

He claimed it ran good .... claimed it had brakes .... claimed the Ts didnt leak .... claimed it was just a small hole in the drovers floor and claimed it had new tires....

Well lets see .... It has a fuel leak ... it will run but only for a few seconds and wont move .... it has NO brakes .... Ts leak ... and now that we managed to get it off the trailer and jacked up the small hole is big enough that the trans cossmember fell out and got jammed on the trailer while unloading it and my foot almost went thru the floor and the tires dont have much life left in them.

Edit... I forgot to add if I didnt have a leg brace on my right leg due to 2 surgerys on it in the past 11 months my leg would ahve been all cut up as the crossmember almost came thru the floor and get my brace .... now theres a big dent/spike in the floor

Also there is anti freeze coming out the tail pipe.

.... Good fun ... I just traded a 1983 mustang that was in great shape it just needed an intake and paint for a car that im surprised didnt fall apart on the way home.

If it wasnt 170+ miles there and about $100+ in gas I would take it back to him.

Oh and the trailer had no brakes it ends up.... that was fun....

Guess im gonna see about the IROC down the road ... its been sitting there for years but i bets its in better shape

Cobra427

Just went down and looked at the IROC....

Nobody was home but its in good shape by the looks. Its black with faded paint and stuff but the floors seemed pretty solid. It was locked so I dont know what year or engine but it did say tuned port injection on the side.

Well I hope you get everything sorted out.. maybe you can keep the car you just bought as a project car.. to fix up the way you want it..

Most dealers.. if that is where you bought it.. will tell you what they have to, to sell a car.. well so will most regular people for that matter..

Best thing you can do in a situation like that.. if it were to happen again.. ask them to remove the car from the trailer.. so it can be inspected.. if they dont want to do that.. then that might give you a hint that something is probably wrong with the car.. that they dont want you to know about until you get it home..

But like I said.. make it a project car.. and build it up to what you want it.. it could be lots of fun.. I would love to build up a 68 SS... since that was my first car ever.. I would love to have another one.. :)

There isnt enough left to the car to build on. Im not kidding about that either.

No it wasnt a dealer. I asked if they could back it off as they claimed it ran. They said sure if we wanted to go get gas for it. So my father got under it and inspected what he could as we barely had the money for gas for my truck to make the trip. And we were not about to leave empty handed as the trailer was already registered in our name and we cant afford to just throw away $100 in gas for a 3 hour trip there and 3 hour back just for fun.

The car did not look too bad when we checked it out. We figured patch the floorboard and take his word on it that it ran as we had been talking to him for a week and he seemed like a nice enough guy.

Its no biggie I guess... Gonna pull the trans and take the rims/tires off and junk the car.

Also you mentioned a 68 Camaro. My father had one when he was young too. Man if it was a 68 in my driveway holy crap. for one my father would strangle me till it was his car then he would sit there with a shotgun to be sure nothing got too close.

I tried to talk it over with the guy and he just acted like a child about it. He tried to tell me the mustang was all messed up. I for one know it isnt and half the people in this town would too. My father did all the work on that mustang and he was an award winning mechanic here in maine for many years. He also drag raced down in ohio and helped build many custom cars here in maine.

Take him to civil court. That's fraud, and that's what civil court does. Get your Mustang back and don't buy anything unless it does what the seller claims it does. If they say it runs... have them start it and start some BS conversation while it runs, say for 10 minutes, and check the gauges, etc. If they say it has brakes then make them drive it and stop it. A short trip to get $10 worth of gas would have been better than the position you're in now.

I hate people like that. If he's unhappy with your mustang, tell him to meet you halfway and undo the deal.

Kinda liking the camaro now. Enough that I just bought an early/mid 80s camaro.

Yep thats right now I own 1 and 1/2 camaros ... WOO HOO... lol

This new one has a 350 in it and the floors are rock solid. It needs some minor body work as its got a few small dents and paint. Also the interior is all messed up but everything off the 91 will fit just fine.

Monster runs like a dream. It used to be a 5spd and still has the clutch lol.... Gotta fix the brakes and the shifter and then put in a rear seal we think as the tranny leaks.

Got looking at it and I think its a 1982 Sport coupe

Also just got a Torker II intake for it. YAY!. Might be gett'n a new carb too. Gotta love having friends with garages full of chevy parts lol.

If I can get that 36 dodge pickup out of the way I can get a pic of the new 82 Camaro. Or I can get one when we take it back out ... Kinda hard right now without a shifter or steering wheel lol. Well ... any interior actually.

holy mofo. thats fd up! (pics) the only cool thing would be to leave the hole open... when someone tails you, you just drop a ball or something down the hole.. have it bounce into the guys car or something lol

Well its been a while but the camaro has been hybernating in the garage ... yea thats right .. managed to get it in somehow lol....

We did find some bondo in the quarters and it was nasty under it so I just got some new quarters a couple days ago.

Done a bit on it but right now I'm waiting for a friend to put the new quarter panels on it so I can finish the interior and we can get started on the bodywork/paint. Mostly all I have done on it was the interior up front and stuff ....

I am in the process of trying to get a SS hood for it but I'm not sure if I will be able to get one before I paint it ... I need it on the road ASAP so I cant wait.

I got some pics of it but I feel I need to warn you guys ... if you have a weak stomach look away. Oh and you can see my other new ... ok its old ... toy next to it... Thats a 1961 Dodge Dart :)

I miss my mustang but theres no point in sitting around moping bout it ... figured theres gotta be a sweet car in that mess... it needs a bit but hey thats the fun part ... the more work you put in the better you feel on the first drive....

I know my heart was racing when I pulled it out of the garage. Since I couldnt walk too well last year this was the first time I got to get in start it up and drive and man oh man.
