This is usually a result of a vaccum shift switch that is located on top of the transfer case. Once it starts leaking, the vaccum pulls oil from the transfer case and it gets all the way up through the lines into the 4wd actuator and the vaccum resovior, the ball under the hood. You need to replace the switch on the transfer case and clean out the lines. Also don't forget to check the level of your transfer case fluid.

Hey, I agree with Blazes. In addition you can count on all of your climate control actuators failing over time because the trans oil attacks the rubber impregnated diaphrams. The only way to correct this issue is replace all of the actuators, the controller and all of the underdash vacuum lines.

You can hold off if you want, but don't be surprised when you can only get air through the defroster vents.
