98 3.8 Stalling at Stops

My daughter reports that her '98 3.8L Winny is stalling at stops. If she hurrys and places it in neutral it won't stall. She says a mechanic has told her there may be an intermittent to the fuel pump. It isn't showing any codes.
I've searched the forums but still don't have a clear answer. I will advise her to check vacuum hoses, fuel and return lines and electrical connections. All work listed below was either done by myself or a pro. Except for the fuel pump, that was replaced by my son-in-law who left a few minor things disconnected, like the FILLER HOSE!!! :screwy: (ID-10-T certification)

Work that has been done recently:
New tranny
New Transmission Range Sensor
Upper Manifold removed and cleaned (along with other cleanings related to this job as recommended in the forum.)
MAF cleaned
New Plugs
IMRC checked and responding to vacuum (really amazing)
Good fuel pressure
New fuel pump
New fuel filter
Injectors and rail cleaned
EGR cleaned

Thanks folks.

you might try taking the iac valve off and cleaning it up, they tend to get a lot of carbon in them which will cause an engine surge or dying at idle

The symptom you describe is right on for the IAC (Idle Air Control).
When you take your foot off the accellerator, the PCM takes over control of the idle speed......using the IAC to control how much air to let into the engine.
The IAC has a little motor inside that drives a screw, which in turn opens and closes a small valve.
You want to spray some Sea Foam "Deep Creep" or even WD-40 into the IAC.
You remove the 2 small bolts that hold the IAC to the upper intake manifold....right next to the Throttle body.
Spray into the IAC such that the fluid runs out.....flushing dirt and such out with it.
If that does not work.....you may need to replace the IAC.

I had the same situation in my wife's 97 Escort and I cleaned the IAC by spraying it with WD 40. This helped a little, but if it is really bad like the one I had, you may need to use a small toothbrush to clean it or better an eye liner makeup brush. My wife wasn't too happy about me using that but she is much happier with her car running better.:grinyes:
