thanks for taking the time to read and reply to this!

I have a 93 escort LX that is in good running condition with one minor problem. when i turn the A/C on there it begins to shake and i hear a loud noise (comes from ther engine) that is in sync with the shaking when idle. i feel the shaking in the steering wheel and apears to be comming from possibly the a/c compressor. once i begin to accelrate, it apears to go away. the ac blows ice cold when driving, mild cold when idle.

i thought maybe, vaccume tube? sensor? bad compressor?

any sugestions?

THAKN YOU!!!

I'm having the same problem right now. I've straightened out the idle while its in neutral, but if I turn on the A/C in neutral it does put a strain on the engine. I just had my A/C compressor replaced about six months ago, so I would check that last (Unless I got a bad compressor). My neighbor came over and looked at my car last night, told me to check the O2 sensor, and check for vaccum leeks.

I'm also changing the EGR Valve tonight, I will let you know if I smooth out my problem. I also changed the Idle Air Control Valve last night, BIG Improvement and spark plug wires. Good Luck and post if you find your problem.

thanks for the reply!

what i might do is take it up to a garage that dose free inspections/estemates and see if they can pinpoint it. i will be changing plugs and wires to see if that helps too. i dont think its the compressor more likely a sensor or vaccume leak. let me know how you come out and vise verse!

thanks again!

Is the compressor cycling too frequently? If so, the refrigerant may need to be "topped up".

thanks for replying!

hmmm never thought about the freon level, air dose blow cold, just not so much when idling. ill check the pressure, but even if it was low, it shouldnt make it shake and make the "grinding" noise, but ill will see!

thank you!
