is there another possible problem than the cam being out of alingment. like a bad spark plug, common on some saturns, or a bad sensor or something because i have checked and double checked the positioning and it is right. At the same time that i replaced the timing belt i also replaced the spark plugs and wires, which arent cheap, and was wondering if these may also be the cause of the problem as well?

I found a answer from Boschmann and he's almost always right:

It does have a cam sensor, but it's actually called the Hall sensor & is located in the distributor. The car won't run if it's bad, if you keep getting this code it's an intermittent problem. Try cleaning the distributor connection first.

94-99 2.0 will set a this code also if the timing belt is old and streches causing the crank to spin at a faster speed than the distributor shaft and the ecm reding it as a bad sensor.
