ok this 98 achieva has a new issue
we solved the security not allowing the car to run at startup issue finally
but now it has a new one
it is eating alternators and batteries
literally
out of the blue for no reason
originally GM said the a/c had a short in it
the fuse was blown
they also said there was/is a short in the a/c system somewhere, and the a/c fuse was burnt, they unplugged the compressor but we didnt know it until recently
this caused the auto trans shifter to not come out of park and when you manaully got it out of park to drive it it felt like it was stuck locked in the torque converter very hard to accelerate
this original compressor clutch coil had very low resistance so i swapped the compressor for one with a little more resistance in it
well it ate another alternator now
i had the diodes replaced in it for 35 bucks yesterday
so far its ok still but who knows for how long until it zaps it again
the ABS light comes and goes
dealer also said something about an ABS harness and i guess a wheel sensor being bad
the ETS light is permanently on now, it didnt used to be
the switch for it does nothing
i felt all the relays in the car and none are warm or anything bad
i heard something about a bad wheel sensor can cause the abtcm to short to ground
wondering if maybe this is the culprit on fried alternators?
damn these cars are an electrical nightmare
wow
never seen so many problems one after another,
fix one and a new one occurs
we are trading the car off for a newer better one soon
such as an 04 GP GT 3800
or similar
any suggestions on a good car like this to get withotu electrical issues?
we are unloading this nightmare car
we thought we had it fixed with the security system finally figured out
but nope,
wow...
thanks for anything
