I just saw a 1979 Chevy pickup for sale with an unlisted price and milage (I can't remember the model). I'm a high school student, and I've been looking for a cheap car. I want to know what a fair price would be just based on the year, what the insurance will be, and also what the mpg would likely be for a truck that old.

To get a good idea of a fair price, I would look at several classified sections from your local paper, pennysavers, swap sheet, or any place where people advertise cars for sale. I'd even look online at online classifieds and eBay to get an idea. It's kind of hard to place a value on something that old without knowing more about it. Insurance shouldn't be too bad on a vehicle like this given it's age and you probably won't have comp and collision on it.Gas mileage on something like that probably won't be the greatest. Most of these trucks in that era had V8s, and depending on what options the truck came with could be a smaller displacement,on up to a large one. It could even have a big block engine in it which means it may use even more gas. Overall this could make a fairly decent cheap vehicle, especially since they are easy to work on and the parts are generally available and less expensive.
