I turn to this forum when I have problem and can find the answer and fix it. Believe I found the solution for the P0340 code which I hope is the cause of the SES however the and 0 rpm indicated is throwing me for a loop. Transmission is shifting fine.

Any ideas or if further info needed please advise

Thanks
Rick

A P0340 code will set off your SES light for sure. A P0340 is a camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. The camshaft sensor is installed on your distributor. Although it usually won't cause a problem with the engine starting/running, it could cause driveability problems.

I would start by taking the cap off, cleaning under the cap, make sure its clean. Check all your connections, the camshaft sensor conntions, make sure they are clean and good.

Has any intake work been done, wher ethe distributor was taken out/off?

No intake work has been done to my knowledge had main head gaskets replaced about month and half ago

Did the code come up right after, or has it just come on now?

What did you do to fix it?
Any other codes?
Did you clear code and see if it returns?

The reason I ask is when the distributor shaft has to be removed for whatever reason, if it is installed one tooth advanced, or retarded, you can cause a P0340. In this case, what happens is the camshaft sensor on the distributor shaft is not phased or in synch with the crank, or crankshaft sensor. The PCM finds the difference, and sets the P0340 off. Thats why I asked if any work has recently been done.

Either way, check your connections, make sure everything is clean.

Not fixed yet going to remove distributor cap and clean under it and the sensor and see if that clears it
