i have a 89 beretta gt and i wanna put a 350 from a camaro and wanted to know if the rear end and the unibody would built right up from a camaro or wut. i wanna figure it if its worth all the work.. iam pretty sure it would need some fab work to the firewall. and tunneling out for the driveline just wondering wut u guys thoughs were if it its truely worth it..


i had block work done to the old 2.8 and a oil pump and camshaft and some other lil stuff. it worked for a lil bit and then just started to act up so i just took a 3.1 from a lumina that my brother had. and thats wuts in it now..

If you are asking about changing the ENGINE, that would be a more serious undertaking. The unitized body structure of a Beretta/Corsica is not designed to take drive thrust at the rear wheels. I suspect the roof panel and quarter panel sails would buckle in a very short time from the thrust and body torque, even if you could devise a means to securely mount the live axle in the rear.

Short of building and/or significantly reinforcing and clearancing the body/chassis of a wrong-wheel-drive unibody, there will be no easy way. It's not a weekend engine swap.

I was thinking about doing that in my beretta. In addition to what Blue Bowtie said, you would have to alter the brake booster location (and probably convert to hydroboost), move the P/S rack (either much lower or to in front of the engine [which would mean altering the struts]). The radiator would have to be moved to the rear of the vehicle. The gas tank would have to be removed and replaced with a fuel cell in the trunk to allow for the driveshaft. If you look at the car from the side, you'll see that the engine would be just about centered over the front wheels, which means the back will slide out very easily with almost no weight back there.

And if your trans is M/T, there's not enough room for all the pedals after you cut the firewall out to make room for the transmission


I gave up on the idea of doing it in a beretta, but I'm going to try it in a Lumina. There's much more room and the suspension/brakes are better suited for several hundred extra pounds.

I believe a Lumina (or Monte) would be a lot easier, but still require a lot of work and reinforcement. That's not to say that is can't be done with a Corsica, but it would be a real effort.

b.c. i have to a drag strips that 454s in beretta and it did 8 sec run. it freaking crazy.
or i was thinking about 3.8L supercharged i heard it builts right up. and getten block work done it and all that good shit...

blue bowtie y did u have to suck a ass...?btw berettas dont have rear window motors b.c. they dont go down.

The FWD V-6 or V-8 swap (Aurora/Northstar) would likely be a lot easier. 8 seconds is cool and all, but it doesn't take a Beretta. A lot of Novas are doing 7-second runs routinely, no boost, no blower, no Viagra gas. It's called "pro stock" class, and 500-ish Mk IVs are the norm. There's a guy in the 'burbs running a turbo Buick in a Cadillac CTS doing low 11s on pump gas and street legal tires, and only 15 pounds of boost. That would be cool in a Beretta, and probably closer to the 8-second 454s without all the hassle. That setup installed in the lighter car and with the boost up to a more normal 18 pounds should make it interesting.
