Please forgive this some what off topic question but I really need to get some advice. I have a 5000 wat generator for the hurricanes down here in Florida. It is Bran New and never been started, thankfully ! Last year I filled the generator with oil and screwed the plug back in. It is a Briggs and Stratton 10hp engine.
Question:
Since the oil has been plugged inside the engine, will it be OK to start the engine (If I need to??) and using this say year old oil since it has been plugged up inside the engine all this time?? I would hate to use this oil and have something go wrong with the generator just when I need it the most.

The oil never wears out. The risk is contamination. You have to determine whether that has happned.

If the oil has been contained (IN) the crank case of the engine and sealed with the screwed in plug and the engine never started, how could the oil become contaminated? What is the difference if the oil is in the plastic container or the crankcase of the engine?

Hey robroy. I believe that willyum is saying the oil is probably good to go. If it has not been under water or something stupid happened to it, fire it up and enjoy.
