I think I'm getting screwed on a repair bill. My car has been leaking anti-freeze and I have a broken intake manifold. I was just curious if anyone could tell me about what the part and labor would be. Thanks ahead of time.

Welcome to AF.

It would help to include the year of your car and what engine you have.

If you have the 3.1 or 3.4, the going price in a large dealership is around $800. However, if you talk to the service manager and tell him you know that GM is having a huge problem with this and that you KNOW GM is helping with part of the cost, they will probably do it for around $450. But be nice about it. The service manager will have to go out of his way to call GM to get a "goodwill" offering from the regional office. So come to his office bearing doughnuts.

Thanks I could have sworn I put the year in there, that would help huh? : ) It's a 96 Monte Carlo, 6 cyclinder not sure of the liter size.

Good luck. The car is nearly 12 model years old and from my experience, many dealers will not give a second look at a discount for repair of the intake manifold gaskets. Many dealers have left a lot of customers in the dark with any help in lowering the cost of repair on newer vehicles. Granted, there are a few dealers out there that still put the customer first, but they are few and far between. Pour through some of the posts on this site in many of the GM forums and you will see that many members had trouble getting GM to pick up any of the costs of repair. Best bet is to go to an independent garage and have the vehicle repaired.

I doubt your intake is broken. It is most likely a bad intake gasket if it's a 3.1, (the 8th digit of your vin# would be an "m"). IF it's the 3.4 DOHC (the 8th digit would be an "X"), it could be anything from an intake vacuum leak, to head gasket issues, to a jumped timing belt.
