Buying retired state/city owned vehicles?andrgo 06-29-2007, 07:55 PM Hello, I was wondering if anyone here could tell me whom I would contact if I wanted to buy an a retired state or city vehicle. I'd like to buy an old work truck or something from the gov't (whether it be local or state) but I don't know where to start. Do I contact the Chamber of Commerce for local inquiries? How about state ones? Thanks, Andrgo '97ventureowner 07-01-2007, 12:15 AM In my area there are auctions on a regular basis where such vehicles are sold. Usually there is a notice in the classified section of our local paper,(try under the "Auctions" heading if they have one.) Also contact your local municipality's Department of Public Works, Department of Transportation, or county purchasing department. Our local county purchasing department also sends out emails in advance of their auctions which lists an inventory of what is to be sold. Also pay attention to the Legal Notices in your paper as many government agencies list auctions there. Other sources that these agencies use are eBay, and you might find listings and announcements of upcoming auctions in the classified sections of trade publications that cater to various industries such as farmers, contractors, and any occupation that might benefit from purchasing such vehicles. Edit: I tend to stay away from companies that offer to give you the listings for auctions in your area for a fee. Most of the information can easily be found by yourself and is made much easier with the help of the internet. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
