98 S10 Blazer 4x4, Shakes During Braking...

Was wondering if you guys could give me some insight here....

Replaced all 4 ball joints and idler arm about 3 weeks ago. My wife was driving home today on the toll road, applies normal pressure to the brake pedal, and she said it was shaking horribly, like the truck had a flat tire. She pulled over, and no tire problems at all. During acceleration and while cruising it's fine, but during braking it's got a horrible case of the shakes. Didn't think it would be warped rotors or anything because she said it just started out of nowhere. She said the whole front end wobbles and sounds like it's coming apart.

Any ideas?

You need to test drive it and check for warped rotor symptoms. Does pedal pulsate during braking, does steering wheel shake during braking, can you feel vibration in seat of you pants? Steering wheel shaking during braking points to front rotors warped. Seat of the pants shake is rear rotors. Rotors are very susceptible to warping if the lug nuts are over tightened. Rotor are also easily warped if overstressed like braking from high speed and activating anti-lock brakes on drive pavement. Also easy to warp a rotor if it is hot and get hit with water like a deep puddle or from splashing.

You may also want to watch for a lot of pedal travel after you have driven a short distance, then on a second pedal depression without moving the truck the travel is less. This could be from the pistons getting pushed back into the caliper by a warped rotor.

Check it out and post back what you find.

Good Luck

You at least have warped rotors.
