02 Monte Carlo, Possible Tranny Problems??Mrbaseball16 06-26-2007, 09:03 PM I have an 02 Monte Carlo SS 3.8L. I just recently came back from a trip to Wisconsin, and when I went to pass a car and kicked into passing gear, the RPM's spiked to about 4000rpm. The car wouldnt accelerate and the car just kinda bogged down. As soon as I let off the gas the car sifted back down and seem to drive fine. Now in the last few days the cars acceleration has gotten very sluggish and it seems like it lost some power. What could the problems be? Someone was telling me it could be a transmisson pressure control solenoid? The car only has 45,000 miles on it and is under warranty, but I just kinda wanna have an idea of what to tell the mechanic to look for when i take it in... help?!!?!? maxwedge 06-26-2007, 09:29 PM Welcome to AF,man y things can cause this, your best bet here is a defintive explanation of the problem and symptoms, passed on to the tech and of course a road test to pinpont the condition. You are getting ahead of things trying to " arm yourself" with a diagnosis. edson4433 07-07-2007, 11:46 PM I have good news for you. Your catalytic converter has rusted out and blocked all of the exhaust ports. The vehicle warranty will cover the entire $1500.00 job. Here is the better news. The Federal Government required all auto manufacturers to extend the warranty on the catalytics to 10 years or 120,000 miles. You are covered either way. I just had the catalytic replaced on my 02' SS at 48,000 miles. I was out of my vehicle warranty and covered by the federally mandated one. My Monte had the exact same symptoms. :bananasmi firebirdlady 07-10-2007, 07:43 AM i thought same thing was wrong with mine:banghead:..but ended up being a $20 coil pack... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
