3000GT Replacement dash speakers?

Has anyone had any luck finding replacement dash speakers for a 3000GT?

I have a 98 3000GT with the factory installed Infinity system and it appears the surrounds on all the speakers has reached their “end of life…”:banghead:

I recently replaced the door speakers with Infinity Kappa series 63.7i speakers and just noticed the dash ones need replacement also. They appear to be around 2 1/2” (inner rim of metal frame) to 2 3/4” (outer rim of metal frame).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

the tweeters on the top of the dash are one inch. the grill for them is just real big.

Thanks for the link! I will check it out.

When I measured the speakers I had the grill removed. The 2 1/2“ measurement was basically across the cone area including the surround. Almost appears to be a mid to high range rather than just a tweeter.

the tweeters in the dash receive a full signal from the radio, so they are not actually a "tweeter" but rather a mid-to-high as you put it. if you are replacing them, i would suggest installing a crossover as well to split the signal between the tweeter and the door speakers.

I measured again just to be sure, the across the cone area it is about 1 7/8” to 2", to the edge of the surround it is about 2 1/4” or so. Magnet is very large for the speaker size, definitely more than a tweeter. This is out of a 98 3000GT, there may have been some changes over the years.

Checked out the posted link, a lot of good info there except replacements for the front speakers… Oh well.

Surely someone has replaced theirs by now…

any one remotely interested in car audio will get a component speaker system for the front. a component system will come with a pair of tweeters (all small enough to fit in the dash), a pair of mid-lows, and a pair of cross overs.

Yea, I wish I would have checked the dash speakers before I replaced the door ones, didn't notice any problem until they were installed. I even considered a couple component systems before I purchased the door speakers... Doh!!!

hey man do what i did..what everyone is saying is right..you should have component speakers that come with tweeters and crossovers with the speakers..you put the tweeters in the stock mesh grill up there by cutting a hole in the mesh according to the size for the new tweeter..will look stock and sound great!

I'm thinking about gettin speakers soon possibly, is $250 for the component speaker system too much to spend. Or could we find that for our cars cheaper somewhere else.

What Component Speaker system is it? if you're buying car audio from a retailer, generally, you get wht you pay for... which is why my buddies Lightning audios from walmart($45) sound like crap and my Clarion Kevlar components($260) sound incredible... but what brands n stuff? infinity im assuming?

word. if you plan on keeping the car, do it right. Especially if you ever like to crank it up.

i will say that i personally have had aweful experiences with Pioneer speakers...on multiple occasions. You could not pay me to put those in any vehicle ever again lol.

Kenwood/Alpine/Clarion FTW!

I just did a quick search at Best Buy (have always had pretty good luck with there stuff). Its "Alpine 6-1/2" 2-Way 330W Component Car Speakers" from the name Alpine I expect a lil more money put out.

if you want the best, go with Boston Accoustic, Bose, or Focal.
