ABS kicking in, Dry road, not skiddingRrey199 06-23-2007, 10:03 AM 95 Windtar 3.8. ABS kicks in as if you are skidding, but road is dry. Replaced 2 of 4 speed sensors and Ohmed them all against the new ones. I don't remember the value, but they were all the same reading. The problem is getting more frequent, up to nearly every time you try to stop. Can anyone recall the clearance between the excitor and the sensors? If the sensors are ok, is there another thing I can test to narrow it down? BTW no codes given the whole time, so the ECM thinks all is ok, so I'm suspecting that the gap may be ok too.:disappoin 12Ounce 06-23-2007, 10:12 AM Are you using a scanner that can read the "chassis" codes? Many of the scanners only read powertrain (Pxxxx) codes. I think all the chassis codes are of the "Cxxxx" or "Uxxxx" format... not sure. When I had some ABS issues, I was able to lean on the local Forddealer for a free scan and printout of troubleshooting routine. (Since I bought the Windstar from them, I guess it wasn't "free" afterall.) Are all your tires the same size, style, and properly inflated? Do you have any brakes/bearings on any wheel dragging? ... will get you when wheel bounces. Rrey199 06-23-2007, 10:50 AM Good point about my scanner, I just assumed it would cover the ABS system. The manual doesn't mention the other codes, so I'll have to assume it doesn't work for the chassis codes. I'm still thinking it should throw the ABS light, but now I'm not sure. The problem happens when smooth stopping, so wheel bounce shouldn't play a part. I'm going to try and locate the troubleshooting sequence that ford has, if not maybe I'll call the dealer on monday. In the meantime, I'll try to narrow it down, pull the wheels & doublecheck for cracks in the rings. Thanks for helping me think it out. Feel free to add anything, I'll check back periodically. Rrey199 06-23-2007, 01:37 PM Update: Found a broken excitor ring on driver's side, but I guess you can't get 'em seperate. I ordered a new outer CV joint for monday. I'll check the other 3 wheels in the meantime. I wonder why I didn't get a ABS light activation. I read a post that said that it was difficult to get the ABS light to come on for faults. I'm wondering if I pull the ABS fuse in the meantime if it will default to normal braking? Any thoughts on this? 12Ounce 06-23-2007, 01:53 PM Not really. Wonder if disconnecting a wheel sensor wouldn't cause a default to "normal" ... along with constant code. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
