brake warning light mystery - been at this for days now!flagged 06-21-2007, 08:03 PM I have a brake warning (dash) light that's on. I have a 92 s10 pickup 4x4, 5 speed, no abs. I have no engine codes, and have search hundreds of threads about checking brake fluid and the ebrake sensor. I replaced : rear brake hardware, rear wheel cylinders, rear brake hose, and master cylinder. I also bled the brakes countless times. I disconnected the parking brake sensor - light still on. In fact - light got a little dimmer with this disconnected. I disconnected the combo valve sensor - light still on. I don't lose brake fluid, and braking seems fine. I can hear/see the brakes engage while bleeding. I unplugged this flat, rectangular box, probably a computer, that is next to the combo valve - waited a few seconds, then plugged it back in. When I restarted the truck, the light was out this time, but after about 5 seconds it came back on! (note: I don't have abs and no computer codes are present) Could something else be triggering this light? Even the GM manual is no help here. thanks in advance for any advice! blazes9395 06-21-2007, 09:06 PM Are you sure it doesn't have rear wheel ABS? I am pretty sure they all got atleast rear wheel ABS. Does it have like a little black box under the hood besdie the master cylinder? If it does that your RWABS module. If you do have it unplug it let it sit and plug it in again and see what happens. flagged 06-22-2007, 12:11 PM You are absolutely correct! I should have realized this much earlier. I assumed that if it had ABS, then it would have an ABS light and a brake light. So it looks like a code 3. (one long flash, 3 short, then repeat) I at least have something to go on. Thanks! On them add the long flash to the short flashes. 1 long and 3 shorts would be a code 4 Grounded anti lock valve switch. Could be valve or ECU. You will need the repair flow chart for code 4 But they only show one code at a time when testing.:grinyes: If you fix one code there may be more codes or problems that does not show up on first test. Also if disconnecting the parking brake switch made the light dimmer it is a good indication that the parking brake switch was on or bad to. MT sent you a pm, problem fixed. had a stuck reset switch in the abs valve, a few taps with the pliers, pulled the brake, stop fuse, reset the abs comp and as soon as i turned the key on, i heard the switch click in the abs and now all good. I will see how long it will last for. I have another abs valve setup so if it comes back i will know what the problem is..
