Hello, new member here looking for some advice on a just bought 1973 Chevelle. I have a few pictures here...

When I bought the car last week she ran great, only recently has the stall been occuring. It happens when I start the car it'll run for a second then shut off and I have to start her up again. Once I start up for the second time it runs great, with the exception of last night when I came to a sudden stop and I stalled at a red light.

Car is a 1973 Chevelle Malibu, 350 V8 all stock 54000 original miles.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Probably just needs a tune up. It could be the carb is out of adjustment or needs replaced.

I think that the car is too far gone and I'll gladly take the problem off your hands. I know, how nice of me and I won't charge you!

I agree on the carb diagnosis. It might be a choke adjustment or the idle is too low. Those you can adjust the mixture screws on those, but don't try it unless you know how.

To adjust them, with the car off, turn each one in gently until it stops. Then back them off 1.5 turns. This gets you in the ball park. Start the car, warm it up fully and then you can do the fine tuning. You can use a vacuum gage, with it running, turn the mixture screw in until it stumbles, back it out and stop at the highest vacuum reading. I prefer to use the "tailpipe" test myself. I have some one turn the screw in until it stumbles and back it out slowly while I listen to the exhaust, I tell them when to stop.

Change the gas filter, look at the plug wires and distributor. The last 2 items can easily rob RPMs off your idle if they're bad.
