93 Jgc 4.0 Awdrecycle_me 06-20-2007, 07:29 PM ok i have a JGC 93 AWD with the 249 transfercase. i want to know if it is possible to convert to 2wd and what all i would need aside form the obvious, tranny convertor flex plate driveshaft. like is it possible and still matain drivablity. if not where can i find a cheap 249 transfer case? laloquera 07-12-2007, 12:33 AM I also have 93 jgc 6L 4.0. The owner before me took off the front shaft line, maiking it a two wheel drive. Not sure if I wanna keep that way. I am also wondering if you can switch out the tranfer case to have the manual option to switch from awd, to 4wd, into 2wd. What does it take? Laloquera dksob81 07-12-2007, 06:15 AM You could swap out the 249 TC for a 231 or 242, this will give you your 2WD option, also remove the front driveshaft will give you 2WD, but you will need to use the e-brake when you park, if you park on a hill or slight grade the jeep will roll away - so use the e-brake. laloquera 07-12-2007, 11:43 AM I always use the ebrake. The front differential spins open & freely, is this gonna be an issue when & if I do reconnect the front shaft? I want to set up to have all the options to transfer from 2wd, 4wd & awd. Can it be done? How are you in the process, is it happening, yet? Laloquera dksob81 07-12-2007, 09:01 PM Removing the front driveshaft will not cause a problem, make sure you just mark the relationship of the driveshaft to the YOKE on the front axle so when you do put it back on you won't get any driveline vibration. Yes this can be done, the 242 transfer case, come with 2HI, 4HI Full-Time, 4HI Part-Time, Nuetral, and 4LO. 4Hi full-time is like what we have now, and part time will lock the front and rear axles together for wheelin' and such adventures. laloquera 07-12-2007, 11:50 PM Interesting. You got to let me know how thigs are going with yours. Have you started yet, or you thinking about? As I am. Any other write up out there on this tc swap? Laloquera dksob81 07-13-2007, 05:15 AM there is a bunch of good write-ups on how to do this swap. The 242 is probably the best transfer case, as far as options go, they put in jeeps. I am still looking for a 242 for a reasonable price. check this one out....... http://jeephorizons.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=694&sid=c68ca09f3c1c268f14fd054ce0ee70da Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
