This was weird. Today I started my wife's '98 GCL. The A/C was on but no air was coming out of the vents. I changed the directional selections but it made no difference. OK, so I'll drive without air. I put the vehicle in reverse and stepped on the gas but nothing happened. I shut off the engine and restarted and both the A/C and the transmission were working fine. What's going on here? Added data: my wife said yesterday she heard belt squealing when she started the engine (A/C also running). Could this be related?

So...was the engine running?? While the trans is computer controled, it will go into reverse and one forward gear (2nd) even without the computer, so the two likely aren't related unless the engine had stalled on you.

I do believe the engine was running, yes. I have witnesses! :smooch:

Does the serpentine belt have anything to do with the transmission?

Nope...the belt runs the AC compressor, Power Steering pump, Water pump, and the Alternator....nothing for the trans.
