The other day I got into an accident on my way to work, I don't really know what even happened, I went to switch lanes and like I said I dont know what really happened, I dont know if the lady was in my blind spot or what, but all of a sudden boom, we hit each other. So she calls the cops, the officer shows up and I gave the officer my license and my insurance but the thing is that I wasnt able to make a payment so they cancelled my insurance but I still had the insurance papers saying I had insurance till July 2007. Just to throw in I'm only 20 years old, could this make matters worse? Whats going to happen with me knowing that I really didnt have insurance even though according to my papers it said I did. Is the insurance company going to come after me, will she, I'm just really scared! HELP PLEASE! :shakehead :uhoh:

If it were me, I'd come clean and notify the police that you had no insurance. It may make matters easier on you. The other driver(or her insurance company ) will probably come to you to pay for the damages. The DMV will probably hit you up with fines for not having continuous insurance coverage. And the police will probably issue you a ticket(s) along with fines. The DMV may also decide to suspend your license depending on the circumstances involved,(length of lapse, your driving record, prior offenses, inability to pay their fine, etc.)

I would make nice with your insurance company first, to see if you can be reinstated (without a gap). If not, you may be on the hook for the damages to the other vehicle, unless she said that she was changing lanes also, then it's 50/50. Is there a police report?

Another lesson of why insurance is so important.
