one of my 98 grand cherokees has a crazy gas gauge. whether i am moving or at a stand still, the gauge will drop to empty, the light will come on, and then eventually the gauge will rise back to the correct reading of gas that is in the tank. i thought it was a bad ground wire but all the wires i checked were in tact. i am assuming that the float is going bad. help me out here. thanks.

The tank level sensor is probally going bad...

oh yea i kno i appreciate it. bad thing is i just filled the tank :banghead: it only starts to go crazy when the tank is below 1/2. guess ill take a drive down the shore this week so i'm not dropping a gas tank filled with 23 gallons of gas :grinyes:

ya, ha.. that would suck.. i had about a half a gallon in my truck when i did it and just used a floor jack and a piece of plywood to drop it.. had to drop the hitch tho and that was a prob.. also, getting that bad boy to fit on the tank and screw the lil ring on over the fuel pump was rather difficult as well.. another thing to be careful is when putting it back together.. if you have a hitch than be make sure you finger tighten all the bolts back 1st.. using an air ratchet is not always the best of ideas.. ha.. found that one out the hard way..

well thankfully this jeep doesn't have a trailer hitch but my other one does so i'm praying i don't have any problems with the other one :nono:
